THE EVIDENCE TEAM

When a crime is suspected the Evidence Team steps in to conduct a detailed and thorough search of the crime scene. Using metal detectors, probes and focused visual searches, the members of the Evidence Team identify potential evidence for inspection/collection by Officers.

In order to support the process managed by Nevada County Sherriff Deputies, evidence search team members document the search with photographs, diagrams and precise measurements. In contrast to other SAR teams, the Evidence Team rarely searches for a person, instead focusing on objects related to the suspected criminal activity.

WHAT IT TAKES...
The Evidence Team is comprised of a small group of experienced searchers who can perform thorough, detailed searches at crime scenes. Strong attention to detail, good judgement, patience and an ability to maintain confidentiality of search activities characterize the members of this team. Being a member of the Evidence Team requires a minimum one-year Mission Ready Type 1 or Type 2 status, with a minimum of six searches under their belt. In addition, Evidence Team members must be willing and able to provide court testimony if called upon.
